Sports Day 2023
Ashton Sports Day
All the children and staff enjoyed a very fun filled, action packed Sports Day this week at the village playing fields. The day was very well attended by our families and a big thank you to you all for your support.
The day began with our traditional house chants before the children started their round robin activities with their houses. This year for the first time, our years 5’s planned these activities during their P.E lessons. They worked really hard to make sure the activities were suitable for all the children from Reception through to year 5, they all did a great job and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the variety of events.
After this we moved onto the track for the sprint races, with all the children competing against their classmates. Our nursery children joined us at the start with their own running races which was lots of fun and gave them a little taste of future sport days! Year 5’s had heats which led to the finals, results as follows;
Boys 1st Harris 2nd Harry 3rd Oscar
Girl 1st Savannah 2nd Annabelle 3rd Daisy
In keeping with Ashton tradition, we ended the morning with a whole school relay. Every single child took part encouraged by the cheers from the crowd! Sapphire were our winners this year so their colours will stay on the relay cup until next year. Well done to all in Sapphire !
After our family picnic, we began the afternoon with the winning house results from the mornings events. Points were given throughout the round robin events to the winning teams and individual runners earnt points for their houses during the sprint races. This year was the closest ever with only 1 point separating the first 3 teams, for the first time ever, we had a joint first place! Results as follows;
Joint 1st place RUBY and EMERALD
2nd place SAPPHIRE
3rd place DIAMOND
During the afternoon, Holly and Hawthorn classes competed in their ‘fun’ races on the track. The children chose 2 events out of egg and spoon, hoop skip, bean bag on head dash and sack race. A lot of fun was had by all!
Oak and Willow classes competed in their field events – Standing Long Jump, Javelin and Shot put. All the children have been practising really hard in P.E to perfect their technique. We have school records for these events some of which date back to 2013 so it’s always exciting if any of these are broken. This year we had 4 records broken which again is a first! We have never had that many broken before in one day. Congratulations to our new record holders! (Results below)
All in all a great day was had by all and a big thank you to all the staff and helpers for all their hard work. A special thank you as well to Sam Cope who did a very professional job marking out the track for us again for the 11th year running!
