Shaping Bright Futures Together

24 25 Hawthorn Wb 30 September

This week, we've started on a new text - Florence Nightingale - Little People, Big Dreams. This fits in perfectly with our topic. We began by getting the children to write down some facts about her life and were very impressed with some of the things they already know. We also found out more about the changes she made to hospitals and nursing when she went to the Crimea and had a go at acting out some scenes from her life. We'll be developing the children's knowledge further during the next few weeks and they'll go on to write the life story of our second 'real life hero', Mary Seacole.
In maths, there's been lots of comparing and ordering of numbers for both year groups. In Computing, we logged on to the laptops and the children had a go at an activity which helped them to practise their clicking and dragging skills.
Our RE lesson focused on Christian symbols and the children found out about the significance of the cross, dove, fish, candle flame and Holy Trinity.
In Science, we have continued with materials and the children were excellent at describing different objects to tell us about their properties.
Finally we have been learning a new song in Music. Hey Friends is a jazzy song which we all sang and then we had a lovely dance around the classroom to find the right beat.
