2324 Holly Class week beginning 10th June
This week Holly class have been reading a story called Sam Plants a Sunflower, they learnt about what happens to sunflowers after they have grown and died and how the seeds can be collected to plant the following year. Using what they had learnt from the story and their own knowledge from growing their own sunflowers, they wrote some instructions to tell an alien who has never seen a sunflower all about how to grow and look after them. The Reception children really impressed me with their independent work and the Year 1 children worked hard to include a question as part of their instructions.
In maths, Year 1 have been finishing their unit of work on fractions and have learnt how to find a half and a quarter of a quantity. They have worked practically to show their answers as well as drawing bar models to show their working out using a picture. Today they enjoyed playing a game of snakes and ladders to practise their counting skills and have been working with numbers up to 100. The Reception children have been learning about subtraction number sentences and have been telling number block number stories as well as writing the number sentence to show how many blocks have been taken away.
On Wednesday, Year 1 went across to the field in Ashton and look part in the PE multiskills event. They look part in lots of different activities that were devised by the Y5 young leaders from across the cluster schools and had a brilliant time. It was excellent training in readiness for Sports Day!
On Thursday we invited our Reception new starters into school for an hour. It was lovely to start to get to know them a little better and our current Reception children were very excited to see them come into Holly class.
We have continued to take part in the Wildlife Trust's 30 days wild challenge and are really enjoying spending some time outside in our beautiful surroundings each day. This week has been full of outdoor PE, forest school and plant hunts. The weekend sections of the calendar we are filling in came home with the children last week if you would like to continue the challenge at home.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend, please do check the children's bags as there will be a little something coming home for Father's Day on Sunday!
