Shaping Bright Futures Together

24 25 Hawthorn Wb 10th February

We've thoroughly enjoyed this final week before half term! The children have worked very hard and deserve a lovely break to rest and recharge their batteries.

One of our highlights this week was watching the dress rehearsal of the Year 5 production, Hansel and Gretel. What a show! We're sure that anyone who's had the chance to see it will agree.

We've been doing lots of writing in our topic work. The children have written down lots of facts about Antarctica and also explained what a compass is used for. In maths, the Year 1s have been exploring numbers up to 50 while the Year 2s have made a start on learning the 2 times table (as well as the related division facts).

In Science, we continued with our work on living things and the children investigated dependency.  There was some fantastic discussions on why plants and animals rely on each other for survival.

It was Internet Safety Week this week and we were learning about scams.  The children were very sensible and showed us that they knew what to do if there was an odd link or a stranger messaging them.  We also played a matching game thinking about all of the personal data that we have that we should not share with strangers.

The children have also created mixed media Antarctic landscapes, inspired by the paintings of Frederick Church and John Kelly. They carefully blended pastels to create the sky then used water colours for the sea - with a sprinkle of rock salt to give the illusion of ice in the water! After that, they used pieces of paper and card to represent the ice shelf and ice bergs. Finally, some of them included a shipwreck, and we've suggested that they might like to add a penguin or two at home to complete their masterpieces. Once again, it's fascinating to see how they all come up with their own artistic interpretations from the same prompts. What a very talented bunch they are!

Thank you for your support and enjoy the half term break.
