In English, the children have continued to prepare for creating their own Mixed Up Fairy Tale booklets which they'll be writing next week. They had a go at writing sentences which included noun phrases, and used some super, ambitious vocabulary. Then, we focused on summarising some fairy tales using a three-part structure.
In Phonics the Year 1s have been learning the ur alternatives - ir, er and ear, as well as HFWs Thursday, Saturday, thirteen and thirty. As usual, if you see these sounds whilst out and about, please point them out to your child.
In maths, both year groups have been working on subtraction, using resources such as Rekenreks and number lines to aid their understanding. Year 1s continue to deepen their understanding of numbers up to 10, while the Year 2s have been subtracting a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number.
We are coming to the tail end of our history topic now. The children found out about hospitals in Victorian times and compared them with what we have today. We will also be taking a quick look at the introduction of the NHS in 1948 and its impact on public healthcare.
We have also been finding our inner artist and have been making Andy Warhol inspired pictures of Mary Seacole. There are a few examples in our gallery.
In Science we are continuing with habitats and the children have been learning about how different living things have adapted to live in some challenging environments around the world.
Finally, rehearsals for our Nativity began in earnest and we have started to put together what we hope will be a special and memorable performance.
