Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

24 Acorn Home

Our week started with a look at the book 'Green Lizards vs Red Rectangles'.  This tells a story of two groups of things that do not get on, and work through their disagreement to come to a happy understanding. We then joined the rest of the school for the Remembrance Service at 11am to remember those brave soldiers who made such a huge sacrifice in the First and Second World Wars.  In the afternoon, we printed poppies.

On Tuesday, our focus changed to 'Home' with a look at the variety of different houses inhabited by different people and species. Several children sent in pictures of their own homes and we were able to compare them, looking at the similarities and differences.  The rest of the school went out on a trip to the cinema, so we had the school to ourselves.  We hunted around the building to look for 9 missing cuddly toys who had decided to make a new home in other classrooms.

As it is anti bullying week, we have been talking about kindness.  We are in the process of dressing little cardboard cutouts, to represent ourselves, and they will eventually make a 'kindness' display.

Our maths this week, has been based on the Shoebox Appeal, with children sorting and counting the different items to go into the boxes. We are making cards to go with them. Our phonics has been listening for initial sounds.

This busy week finished with the children dressing for Children In Need.  We had fun colouring pictures of Pudsey Bear and Peppa Pig.
