Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

Busy Week !

What a busy sporting week we have had here at school !

Skipping Workshop

On Tuesday the whole school took part in a skipping workshop led by 'Skippy John', an expert skipping instructor, who has been teaching skipping in schools for many years.

All the children learnt some new skills whether it be skipping for the first time or how to do some tricks. Everyone was really enthusiastic, even skipping at playtime in the rain! We are hoping this will continue to be enjoyed for many months to come in the playground.

Watch out for our sponsored skipping challenge that will be coming soon!

District Cross Country

Following on from our Intra house cross country last week, the top 4 children from year 5 represented the school at the Evesham District Cross Country event which was held at Price Henry's.

The course was a challenging one, which included lots of up hill running and running through orchards and pumpkin fields.

There were over 50 children in each race and our children did exceptionally well, we are very proud of them. Logan and Josh came in the top 20 in what was a very tough year 5 boys race. Edith and Maisie made it to the top 10, with Maisie finishing 9th and Edith finishing 2nd. Edith will now represent South Worcestershire in the county final which will be held next year.

Well done to all 4 children for putting 100% effort into their races. Good luck to Edith at the finals!

Cluster Football Tournament

We also took in a football tournament which was the first Bredon Moles cluster event of the year. It was hosted by the football academy at Evesham United Football Club on their 3G pitch and they did a great job refereeing and organising the event.

We took two teams, an older team from Oak class and a younger team mainly from Willow. They both competed in their own leagues and played 6 matches each. They were competing against 6 other schools and the standard of football was very high.

Both teams were lucky enough to be led by two of our Dads who are football coaches and who kindly helped us out on the day. A massive thankyou to Mr Poole and Mr Key for all their hard work and to Mrs Poole who also supported us. The children were able to benefit from professional coaching and all had a very fun packed, energetic morning! We saw some great team work and good team spirit.

Our younger team did really well, winning a lot of their games and came joint 2nd place.

Again, we are very proud of our talented footballers for all the effort and hard work they put in.
