Shaping Bright Futures Together

Happy New Year to you all!

We've had a super first week back. The children have worked hard, enjoyed seeing their friends again and welcomed two new pupils to Team Hawthorn, both of whom have settled in very well.

We've been working on a special project in our English lessons. Just before Christmas we were gifted a set of books written and illustrated by Heather Buchanan. The children have really enjoyed reading about the adventures of the animal characters. They've worked in pairs on a book review and written thank you letters to acknowledge this kind donation. We'll be sending some of our work along with these letters and also creating a display in the corridor.

In maths, Year 1s finished their work on place value within 20, while Year 2s are coming to the end of their addition and subtraction unit. In Computing, the children had a go at resizing images and we started our new topic - Where in the world? - by finding out what they already know before we begin our learning journey.

In science, we started a new topic, Living things and their habitats.  The children thought about what it meant to be alive and we worked out what the 7 life processes are that all living things do, whether you are a plant or an animal!

It's been a lovely week and the children have all worked really hard getting back into the routine.
