23 Holly Class w/b 5th June
It has been a very fun and eventful week in Holly Class! This week we have kicked off our new topic ‘Beside the Seaside’ with the book ‘The Journey’. The children have loved role playing in the classroom boat and pretending to be pirates! They have also enjoyed listening to our class ‘continent’ and ‘ocean’ songs and labelling all of the different areas of the world using the floor map.
In phonics reception have recapped the phonemes ‘ear’, ‘air’ and ‘ure’ and have practiced writing short sentences using both tricky words and words containing the phoneme. Year 1 have continued to practice their Phase 5 phonemes in preparation for the Phonics Screening test. They have all worked extremely hard!
In maths this week, Reception have continued their work on number bonds to 5 by singing along to the song ‘5 little kittens’ and recognising numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 as ‘5 and a bit’. Year 1 have started their focus on place value to 100 and practiced counting forwards and backwards in a sequence.
In literacy Reception have sequenced our class story and written a sentence about what they can remember. We have started to focus on using capital letters and full stops and they are trying really hard with this. Year 1 have identified the features of a non-chronological report and sorted lots of different examples.
We finished the week with our lovely castle trip! The day was packed with castle themed activities and the children loved dressing up and spending the day having so much fun. This was a lovely way to conclude our topic and we are very pleased that the weather turned out so great! Click this link to the photo gallery KS1 Castles Away Day photos
See you all next week!
