Oak Week Beginning 27th February 2023
Our first week back has brought new topics and areas of study across the curriculum.
In Science we have been looking at life cycles in detail as part of our study into animals and their habitats. We looked at a range of animal groups life cycles and noted the similarities and differences between them. We looked in detail at the life cycle of a Green Turtle and played a board game which followed this creature through its life cycle and the dangers and changes that it may face during this time. We will move on to studying the life cycle of a frog in more detail once we have some frog spawn to observe!
Our main topic area this term is called Weather Watch - Climate Zones and Biomes and has a geographical focus. Our first task this week was to learn about the main climate zones our world can be divided into and the children chose which one of these they would choose to live in if they could, giving 3 geographical reasons for their decision. Our whole school theme this half term is Looking After Our World which links very well with this climate themed topic as we will investigate how climate are changing.
Every day, we are in full flow rehearsing for the play, which we are fitting in around our learning. Each day we are improving on our acting skills and remembering more and more of our lines! Next week will include dress rehearsals which we are hoping will give the children even more confidence to perform at their best. It won't be long to wait for the main performances now!!
Friday's big event was World Book Day and Oak Class did us proud with a huge variety of book characters from their favourite stories. It is their last chance to get dressed up for a book day event and they really enjoyed showing off their costumes. See the gallery for some pictures of the wonderful effort both pupils and parents put into their outfits!! They look amazing.
During World Book Day Oak had a visit from Mrs Emond who read them a story as all teachers swapped classes. We also divided into house groups to do some paired reading and as a class got involved in some fun activities all about books including book charades, guess who, and 2 truths and a lie. It was a brilliant day !
This week the Year 5 were also involved in some out of class learning through a cross country event and a STEM construction session. Click here for Cross Country News and here for STEM news.
