Shaping Bright Futures Together

Hawthorn Wb 4th November

It's been a busy first week back after half term and the children returned full of energy and enthusiasm.

In English, we gave a lot of thought to Bonfire Night (including how to stay safe) and the children created their own senses poems called 'Sparks in the Sky'. This was a great opportunity to extend their descriptive vocabulary and they all worked very hard on their final pieces - written out in best on special bordered paper!

In maths, both year groups have continued working on their addition skills and tackled some tricky problem-solving activities with great enjoyment and resilience.

We started our new topic on Monday - 'Where do we come from?' - which focuses on recent history and our families. We'll soon be sending out some information about a fun project to do at home to create a family tree, so 'watch this space' ...

We focused on the Christian ceremony of baptism in RE, and found out that it's a way of welcoming babies (and older children or adults) into the family of the church, providing another opportunity for belonging.

In Science, we became data analysts and looked at the weather charts that we had been filling in throughout October.  The children completed tally charts and then created their own pictograms from their data.

Finally, have a look at our Andy Warhol inspired portraits of Mary Seacole.  The children worked really hard to ensure that they were neat and colourful.  We think they did a great job!
