Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

Week Ending 19th July 2024

What an emotional week!! Oak Class have been very strong this week as we have said our goodbyes to the Year 5's and Mrs Thornton too! We have had two lovely assemblies celebrating successes and reflecting on memories they have brought our whole school community together: real Ashton moments.

On Monday I took the Year 5's to a sporting event called Main Games which brings all the children who are starting BHA in Year 6 together. They were put into their new house teams and had the opportunity to socialise and compete against each other in 4 different events: bell boating, quick cricket, running and skittle ball. They had lots of fun even though it rained for most of the day.

Our final piece of work this week was a still life art lesson. We learnt how to approach a drawing like this and throughout this week the children have completed their final masterpieces. They chose which medium to use and the results were amazing, some of the Year 5's produced some truly outstanding work. Look in the gallery for some of the best examples.

Both Mrs Thornton and I would like to thank you for all your help and support over this academic year and we wish a very safe, relaxing, and happy summer holiday.

I will see some of you next in September, Mrs Thornton will visit us soon I am sure.
