Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 20th May 2024

This week in our writing lessons we have been learning how to write in the style of a blog, so its over to the children this week to tell us all about their residential and Bellboating experience. I have selected some extracts from what they wrote; I think they should write it every week !!

Condover

Last week, Oak Class went to Condover Hall, which is in Shropshire, to an outdoor adventure centre. We went for 2 nights and 3 days. The bus journey was 2 whole hours! Luckily the seats felt like a luxury massage! When we got there, everyone devoured their lunches like ravenous wolves because we were all absolutely starving after the journey. After that we got a tour of the grounds and unpacking and then it was rock climbing. We were all professional climbers on that wall!  Dinner was a hit and everyone enjoyed either pizza and wedges or chicken and rice, with chocolate ice cream for pudding. Then it was the run around quiz, that exhausted everyone. A special well done to the winners the 'Fat Pigs' team. After that we all tiredly dragged our weary legs to bed for a well deserved rest. But before bed Mrs Peacey read us a story and we had some biscuits.

It was an early start on day 2 and everyone was extremely exhausted (especially me!) after a severe lack of sleep. Breakfast was really, really yummy and gave us the energy for the action packed day ahead! Millie Year 5

On Day 2, very early in the morning, we had our breakfast which tasted delicious, then we headed off for fencing, it was amazing. I loved doing it but I could hardly breathe in the mask. After that it was abseiling, I wouldn't say it was my favourite activity, but really would you do it? Some people did it and others didn't, I don't blame them it was a bit scary. Then we had lunch it was scrumptious chicken nuggets and chips. After lunch we did low ropes which was fun and we got to pour water on our instructors head! I felt bad but it was fun. The sensory trail was next, we did it in the rain, which was not the best, some people got so muddy they looked like a chocolate bar. After this we had a shower and then went for tea, which was delicious, we had sausage and mash with peas and gravy and Yorkshire pudding. it was probably the best meal ever! Then we settled down and watched a movie (as it was still raining outside) the teachers treated us to a lollypop. Then it was bedtime, we all fell asleep in no time.

In the morning we we had pancakes for breakfast, packed and went to rocket launch it was such fun. Finally we said our goodbyes. I'm sure everyone had a great time at Condover. Gracie Year 5

Bell boating

On Tuesday Oak Class went Bell boating, which was so much fun, but we had to put on a life jacket that was hard to put on. Then we got sorted into our groups and got on the boat it was cool until it started shaking. Whenever we try something new we need to be safe, so we had two instructors, who were very nice.

After that, we started to get rowing, it was so much fun we had to use a special technique and a special hand position. There was one problem, we kept crashing into the verge and other boats, when we were rowing we had to have the same rhythm. But overall, it was a great experience, one we will always remember. Tabitha Year 4.

We had two instructors: George and Karen. George was on our boat. Once we had pushed apart from the other boats and started to paddle, it was really difficult and I accidentally splashed someone on our group. We were all very wet within a few minutes of being on the boat. We had to get the right technique, which was really hard. My group never really got the hang of it because people were going too quick, which was annoying. There two different types of paddle movement, forward and backwards.

Also we went in the locks where we did the catwalk and were doing funny poses and I thought everyone looked great! In the lock the water goes up and down. It was a great experience.  Bethany Year 4

It was a surprise that the weather was actually good. When we went through the lock we paddled down the river and then went into the reeds, the reeds were very green, dirty and messy. We saw fish in the water which took my breathe away. I thought it was hard but it was easy after a bit. When we finished we had lunch which was brilliant. It was such a great day. Sienna Year 4.

Have a great half term everyone, I can't believe we will start our last half term of this year so soon. It will be a very busy time, especially for the Year 5 children, but there's lots of fun to be had.
