Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow wb 03.02.25

Willow class have been creating their own sketch maps this week as part of our learning in Geography. The children looked at the features on an OS map of Ashton under Hill and had to create a key with physical and human features of the local area. They did a super job and were really careful to locate features accurately. In Art, we continued on the theme of tints and shades, applying our learning from last week to paint a hilly landscape to make it look 3 dimensional.

In Maths we have started learning how to calculate perimeter. Our year 3s have been learning about the definition whilst the Year 4s have been calculating perimeter of rectilinear shapes. We have worked hard to remember to always record our answers in the correct units. In Writing lessons we have been looking at a new text called 'Flotsam'. It is a picture book all about the wreckage of a ship washed upon the shore. It has some fantastic images and we have been using them to inspire our sentence writing, building in the use of prepositional and adverbial phrases.

Willow class are approaching the midway point in their swimming lessons this term and we are really proud of how they are all taking on advice to improve their swimming strokes and demonstrating confidence in the water.
