Willow Class wb 29.01.24
This week as part of our Science, the children learned about the importance of food chains. We explored various food chains and explained that the arrow shows the flow of energy. The class constructed their own using the organisms we would find in the school playground and in our own gardens.
In Maths this week, the children have been learning all about measure. We used rulers to measure accurately in centimetres and millimetres. We converted centimetres into millimetres to help us solve problems. We learned it is important to carefully use a ruler when measuring and always start on zero. We enjoyed playing a game of 'measurement tag' where you had to draw lines of particular length and try to avoid overlapping with your partner. The children were accurate with their measuring and worked well together.
We have also started a new genre in writing lessons. We will be learning how to write an effective interview and using our sentence structure to add more detail. We read the book ‘Interview with a Tiger’ and looked at the various features of an interview. We enjoyed the use of humour by the author and the way it is written to learn about various animals. We focused on expanded nouns, identifying the determiners, adjectives and nouns before discussing the quality of adjectives chosen and how precise they were.
Friday afternoon was our half termly Forest School session and we had a fantastic time. Thankfully the sun was shining and the children enjoyed working together to build dens and make mud cakes. On our way to Forest School we spotted the snowdrops dotted about and it was lovely to see the first signs of Spring heading our way. We were also surprised to see how the site looked so different from our last visit due to the change of seasons. A great time was had by all.
