Week 1 in the new look Oak Class
We have had a super start to our first week of the Autumn Term. In Topic, we have started to learn about the impact of the Vikings on Anglo Saxon Britain, started reading Michael Morpurgo's Kensuke's Kingdom and revising our place value knowledge in maths.
The highlight of the week was a visit to the meadow on Wednesday, to find inspiration for our descriptive writing. It was a gorgeous sunny day and Oak Class sat in the shadow of a majestic Oak tree summoning their imaginations and creative juices to prepare themselves for descriptive writing back in the classroom. We were very impressed with the results; who wouldn't be inspired by such a beautiful place.
The children have been getting used to being back in class. not in rows, but small groups and allowed to mix with all the children in the school at playtimes; very exciting! The Year 5 children have greatly enjoyed meeting their Reception Buddies and checking up on them to help them settle into school. The Year 4 children have also been supporting children in Acorn Class at playtimes to ensure they have lots of fun. We have our reading corner back with cushions and bean bags and the children will be starting a challenge to read as many Michael Morpurgo books as they can throughout this term.
We have had an introduction to Viking Britain in our Topic lesson this week, check out the Class page to find out the Key Questions we will be investigating. In Art we have been using clay to produce tiles of our handprints for a display in the classroom and have started our study of portraits by making a self portrait using different paper textures. Our Science this term is based around materials, their properties and how these change. We will be doing lots of investigations and experiments to help develop our scientific thinking skills.
