23 Holly Class W/B 26th June 2023
Another week completed for Holly Class! For our topic work this week, the children have identified the features of an island and how this differs from the mainland using maps and atlases. Year 1 have also identified different British Islands. The children have also engaged in lots of mermaid themed activities for our story ‘Julian’s mermaid’! They have used sponges and paints to create mermaid scales, made mermaid perfume using flowers and glitter and even created their own artwork of the seaside using oil pastels, paints and different materials in the style of the artist Joan Eardley!
In phonics this week, Reception have recapped the digraphs ai, ee, igh and oa. They have read words and written sentences containing these sounds. Year 1 have learnt about when to use the ‘es’ suffix and ‘re’ prefix in our spelling.
In maths this week, Reception have been introduced to the rekenreks as a method of counting and identifying number bonds to 10. They have worked hard to ‘see’ where they need to move the beads before moving them so they can do it in one push! Year 1 have practiced counting with coins and using them to get onto Holly Classes bus!
In literacy, Reception have continued to practice their sentence writing through our independent morning tasks and have made predictions of what Julian might do next in our class story. Year 1 have made some excellent reports about the seaside! They have begun their new topic of explanation texts and have worked as a group to identify all of the different features of an explanation.
On Wednesday this week we had transition morning where everybody moved up into the next year group. Holly Class had a lovely time becoming Year 1’s and 2’s and loved getting to know all of the new faces!
We are excited to see what fun next week will hold, have a lovely weekend everyone!
