Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

Hawthorn Wb 16 December

It's been a Christmas Crafty kind of a week in Hawthorn class! The children have produced a lovely Christmas card and two different giftwrap designs using a variety of items to print them - including potatoes and mashers! This involved some maths too as they had to create repeating patterns. They all look very effective, as you'll see in the photos.

We've done quite a bit of maths this week, as the Year 1s worked with number lines to 20 while the Year 2s practised subtracting on a number line. We also took a look at 2D shapes and they had lots of opportunities to complete 2D shape-related Christmas activities.

We finished our 'Christmas' topic in RE. The children paired up to write captions for pictures re-telling the tale of the nativity story. We also completed our family history topic by reflecting on what we've learnt about 'families now and then'.

In other news - we've heard from Mrs Stephenson in Romania and look forward to learning all about her experience in the new year. We had our final 'Open the Book' assembly this week, Christmas lunch, met a very special visitor, wore our Christmas jumpers and thoroughly enjoyed party day!

We'd like to thank you for all your support this year and hope you have the loveliest time at Christmas. We're sending our very best wishes for the New Year and looking forward to seeing all the children again on Tuesday 7th January 2025.
