23 Hawthorn wb 26th June
We've had another busy and productive week in Hawthorn class.
In English, the children wrote their own stories in the style of, 'How to Hide a Lion at School', and they made a really good job of it! It's lovely to see how much they've all developed their writing since September.
They've continued their work on 'Time' in maths. The Year 1s have been exploring the difference between seconds, minutes and hours, and had a go at timing some fun activities using stopwatches, as you can see in the photos. There are some real action shots! Meanwhile, the Year 2s have focused on telling the time, both past and to the hour.
On Monday, the children painted the clay sea creatures they made last week, and in the process, developed their earlier skills. Here are some examples of their beautiful work - what a creative bunch they are! Then on Tuesday, they found out the difference between human and physical geographical features of the seaside.
We continued with our work on Plants in Science and write up our investigation on what plants need to be healthy. The children observed plants that had been grown in; cold conditions, no light, no soil, no water and finally, one with water, soil and light. We looked at all of the plants, drew what we could see and discussed why this had happened.
And finally we said goodbye and thank you to Miss Burrowes. To celebrate, we had a little picnic party on the school field, complete with a castle by the seaside cake made by Mrs Barnett to match our last two topics!
