Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow wb 17.03.25

Willow class have been creating abstract art using collage this week as we come to the end of our work on landscape art. We compared examples and discussed the effect the use of colour, pattern and texture created for example stormy seas or a calm landscape. We then went on to recreate some landscape scenes using collage materials which was a really enjoyable lesson and the children worked really hard.

As part of our work in Science lessons, the class have been learning about the structure of a flower. The children each had a daffodil and an Alstroemeria flower head and carefully took the flower apart using tweezers. They inspected the parts of the flower carefully using a magnifying glass. The children were intrigued to find seeds inside the ovary of the flower and compared the parts of the two species. The class really enjoyed this activity and felt like real “scientists.” Take a look at our photos!

In English, the children have been learning about tenses. We read the story ‘Dougal the Deep Sea Diver’ which is based around a diary of Dougal who goes on deep sea diving expeditions. We focused on improving our verb forms and writing in the past perfect tense. We answer questions to show our understanding of past, present and future tense and how to spot the difference. We also learnt to write in past progressive tense and the children were challenged to change the tense of a text which they did really well.

In Maths, our Year 3 children have been finding out the difference between volume and capacity as well as continuing to develop their skills when reading scales. The Year 4s have been using lots of practical equipment to divide 1 and 2 digit numbers by 10. They were doing a super job with exploring the value of decimal numbers.
