Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

Holly Class Week beginning 10th March

It has been a lovely week in Holly class with lots of lovely learning and a wonderful thank you session with our year 5 buddies.

This week we have been continuing to piece together our crash-landing mystery. This week we found a note from, who we believe to be, one of Bob’s aliens.  They were asking to learn all about life on Earth. During our trip to forest school on Tuesday we took a new route past some familiar sights and noted down the way. Back in drawing club, we drew and labelled our own maps of the route that we took. After, the year 1 children wrote some fantastic recounts to let the aliens know the way. The reception children also wrote some lovely sentences to tell the alien’s what the map was for.

In maths this week the Reception children have been continuing to work on numbers to ten, focusing on representing and identifying the numbers 9 and 10.  The Year 1 children have been focusing on subtraction within 20 and using our number bond facts to support us with this.

On Wednesday, the reception children had a very special session with their buddies. The children each made their buddy a medal to thank them for all of their help and support as newcomers to our school. In return, their buddies made them each a beautiful hand made gift. All of the children were thrilled with their gifts and happy to share some special time with their buddies.

We have also spent some time this week making our own messy map in the garage to show the village of Ashton as part of our ongoing geography work. It was very exciting as some of us were able to add our own houses and places of importance to us. The map has now become a staple in the garage, where the children have enjoyed adding people and vehicles and watching them move around the village.
