Acorn - Whatever Next
The sun has finally come out! We have spent lots of time outside this week, just enjoying the fresh air and the different learning environment that the outdoors presents. Our book of the week 'Whatever Next' has been a good introduction to space and has inspired us to make rockets. The children have each selected their own 'junk' with which to model, chosen their design and will put the finishing touches on them next week. They have thoroughly enjoyed flying them around the classroom, the playground and the hall. Their ability to countdown from 10 in order to blast off is very impressive.
It has been Mental Health Week and we have been doing our daily emotion check ins. The children are good at naming the emotion emojis and are able to express their feelings and the reasons for them. We will continue this work later in the term.
In phonics, the children are becoming really good at hearing the blended word when said in a rocket voice. They have also been developing their fine motor skills by making moons out of playdoh.
We have been on several imaginary trips to space, and the children are becoming really good at following a story, coming up with new creative ideas and generally enjoying the fun. We have had a lovely first week back!
