Acorn 25 The Queen's Handbag

The Queen's Handbag follows the Queen's journey around the UK as she chases her handbag which has been stolen by a swan.  We have plotted the Queen's journey on a map and looked at photos of the landmarks that she visits.  The sequel to this book is The Queen's Hat, (which also goes missing).  This time the Queen pursues her hat around London, and we have used GoogleEarth and photos to look at the popular tourist destinations mentioned in greater depth.

Since the Queen is trying to catch the handbag and hat, we decided to practise our catching.  To make this slightly easier, the children have been catching and throwing balloons,  This has been great fun and next week, we will practise with balls.

The children have really enjoyed singing London Bridge is Falling Down and have mastered the tune and lyrics.  In phonics, we have continued our work on rhyming with 'Silly Soup' (the children need to identify ingredients from the words that rhyme with them.  In maths, we have been working on number recognition and ordinal numbers.  Some of our toys have been in a race, and the children need to identify, who is first, second, third and last.
