Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning January 24th February

Across the whole school this week we have been putting an extra focus on our mental health in support of the nationally run Children's Mental Health Week. This years theme was 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself and it was partnered by the film Inside Out 2 (a great watch if you haven't seen it). Oak children have engaged in many different activities across the week and produced some very self-reflective work. They have enjoyed creating brain islands, drawing different emotions and finally producing a piece about how well they know themselves.

In Maths we have been have a special focus on studying different approaches to problem solving. We have followed the pattern my turn, our turn your turn to develop our skills and the children are building their resilience to any challenges they come across and ability to spot all the different steps involved in reaching an answer. Their ability to decode the language is also improving.

The new book we are using in English lessons is called The Tear Thief and we will use this to develop our short story writing skills. This week we have been learning the structure of the story and finding out as much as possible about the Tear Thief character. We have Hot Seated her and delved into her motivation to be a thief asking her all sorts of probing questions. The children have really been inspired by this story and the themes have captured their imagination.
