Holly Class week beginning 17th March
This week, the children were incredibly excited to get to Forest School this week and see if the alien had been able to follow their maps to the oak tree. When we arrived, we found alien footprints and a message from them! The message let us know that the alien had enjoyed their time playing at Forest School and that they were still watching us. The children then set to work hunting for clues, using clip boards to record their findings. Some were quite sure that they had seen the alien on top of the church! On Wednesday, we found the alien’s footprints back in our classroom and are now thinking about what else we can teach them about our village.
In literacy, we have continued to explore our text ‘The Man on the Moon’. The children have done some fantastic writing work recounting Bob’s day from his perspective. They carefully planned what they would like to include in their recounts and have really taken their time to ensure that they are writing in full sentences. Reception children have been focusing on using finger spaces and full stops, while the Year 1 children have been focusing on including ‘and’ and ‘but’ in their writing.
In maths this week, the Year 1 children have been working on subtraction within 20. We have been practicing spotting the related addition and subtraction facts from part-whole models. We have been really trying to remember that the whole is in a different place in addition number sentences in comparison to subtraction number sentences. The Reception children have also been looking at parts and wholes of numbers. They have been focusing on finding two parts that come together to make a number within 10. We are now starting to focus on the different number bonds to 10, beginning by making them using a variety of practical resources such as tens frames and numicon.
Today in science, we have been on a lovely spring walk around Ashton village. We took our clipboards and a check list to see which signs of spring we could spot. We found lots, including some daffodils, blossom and bees.
We have also enjoyed celebrating wear red for Red Nose Day as well as some digital painting as part of computing. We have also squeezed in some PSHE, discussing the different items that are safe and unsafe to put onto and into our bodies.
