Shaping Bright Futures Together

Holly Class Week beginning 3rd March

It has been a very busy week in Holly class with lots of lovely learning happening all linked to different events that have been taking place.

Tuesday was Pancake Day which we celebrated in style by, of course, making and eating our own pancakes. We learnt about the history of pancake day and why it is celebrated and the children worked really well in teams to make their pancakes. They have enjoyed revisiting this with our pancake tuff tray and writing lists and instructions explaining how it is done.

On Friday we celebrated World Book Day in school. We had a wonderful day with the children all dressed up as a book character sharing, talking and learning about our favourite books. We had a Snail and the Whale treasure hunt themed maths lesson, at Drawing club we wrote our own character descriptions and in the afternoon we became story tellers!

Earlier in the week we carried on trying to solve the mystery of the crash landing in our classroom. On Monday, we fished a book out of the wreckage and found that it help more clues. The book was 'Bob, Man on the Moon'. Bob's job is to tidy the moon and it is often messed up by some cheeky aliens with green feet...we think our green feet might also belong to some aliens like this! At drawing club this week we have written about Bob and his work and the Year 1 children have been working on using capital letters for names and places. We have also been sequencing and retelling the story.

In maths this week the Reception children have been working on numbers to ten, focusing on representing and comparing the numbers 9 and 10. The Year 1 children have been working on doubles and then moved onto a recap of their subtraction work.

We have also managed to squeeze in some Geography topic work learning about the differences between villages and towns as well as learning that we live in the county of Worcestershire and a trip up to the meadow for forest school on Tuesday.
