Holly Class Week beginning 24th February
This week we have been having our own Children's Mental Health week in school. Each day we have checked in with our colour monsters and chatted about how we are feeling at different points throughout the school day. We have watched some clips of Inside Out and and read some lovely books such as 'Ruby's Worry'. This afternoon we also made some helping hands to keep in our draws at school so that the children always have a reminder of who they might chat to if they have a worry or concern.
We have been reading 'Here We Are', a lovely book by Oliver Jeffers. At drawing club the children drew and wrote about themselves and what makes them special and unique as well as drawing and talking about our favourite places. The Year 1 children have been getting back into the swing of things by thinking about their sentence work and making sure they are always writing super sentences with correct punctuation and the Reception children have been showing how they are getting more and more confident when starting to put together their simple sentences.
In maths this week, the Year 1 children have been working on seeing the link between number bonds to 10 and number bonds to 20. We have been playing games to help remember number bonds to 10 and then using numicon to add an extra 10 and work out the linked bond to 20. Together we made a class chart showing all of these which they have been using to support their own learning. The Reception children have been learning about length and height. They have used some super vocabulary in their play and had lots of fun measuring each other and different things about our classroom.
We have also started our new Geography topic, Street Detectives. We are going to be finding out more about where we live, starting locally before moving further afield. We began by reading The Everywhere Bear and talking about where we might take him in our village.
Today the children came in to find something very strange in our classroom. We seem to have had some sort of crash landing, there was a big mess and some suspicious green footprints. They set to work investigating, mapping the area, drawing the evidence and writing down their thoughts about what had happened. Next week there will hopefully be more clues about what has happened...we will keep you up to date!
