Shaping Bright Futures Together

24 25 Hawthorn Wb 24 February

We've very much enjoyed welcoming the children back to school and making a new start in come areas of the curriculum.

In English, we've begun working on a new book, 'Man on the Moon', which the children are loving! Bob's job is to look after the moon and welcome daily tourists. The only trouble is, Bob is convinced that there's no such thing as aliens - even though there's lots of evidence that they do exist! The children had a go at acting out important scenes using freezeframes and then sequenced a series of pictures and captions from the text. Can you tell which photo shows them all in role as aliens?!

In maths, Year 1s have continued work on place value to 50 while Year 2s have begun to learn the 10 times table, along with its division facts.

We'll be starting our new topic - Street Detectives - in earnest next week. It is another geography-based unit of work, but this time focusing on things closer to home. The children will be learning about the four UK countries and their capital cities. They'll also explore the difference between villages, towns and cities, and be able to identify some local settlements. Finally, they'll have a go at creating their own maps.

In Computing, the children are learning to programme robots in the ever-popular form of BeeBots. Miss Snell led a super lesson and the children had a lot of fun working on the clear directions needed to send their BeeBots on a journey around the hall. There's much more to follow over the next few weeks.

In Science, the children were data analysts and looked at the information on the weather that we had gathered through January and February and then compared this weather with that in Autumn.

Finally, it has been Children's Mental Health week this week and we have been thinking about what makes us us and the things that make us happy or worried and the things we can do to make us feel better.  We had some really insightful talks and took a moment to breathe in our very busy days.
