In English, the children have written their own stories based on 'Man on the Moon' but with a twist - featuring an alien as the main character instead of Bob! We thoroughly enjoyed reading their ideas and seeing how much progress they've made with their writing since September. We then moved on to poetry and the children enjoyed looking at different poems and, in preparation for next weeks poetry plate competition heats, we looked a performance poetry and how to use our voices and actions to present them.
In maths, Year 2s have reached the end of their Length and Height topic and will move on to Mass, Capacity and Temperature next week. The Year 1s have continued their work on Mass and Capacity and thoroughly enjoyed doing some practical activities - even if things did get a little soggy at times!
The children found out about St Patrick's Day in Monday's assembly and went on to complete fact files in their topic lesson. We've reached the end of our programming unit in Computing, and next week they'll learn about creating media focusing on digitial pictures.
In RE, we'll be focusing on the Christian festival of Easter for the next few weeks so that the children understand the meaning behind it and realise there's more to it than bunnies and chocolate eggs!
On Thursday, to link with the Spring Equinox, in Science we carried out a hunt in the playground to see if we could see signs of spring. The children thoroughly enjoyed looking for nests, buds and seedlings and used the magnifying glasses to look in detail at some of their findings.
Finally, on Friday we had a trip to Forest School and had a great time mapping out our routes through Ashton (as part of our Street Detectives topic) and then made nests on the meadow thinking about all our habitat work. What a lovely way to finish the week!
