Week Beginning 2nd September 2024
Happy new school year! I hope all the new and old Oak families enjoyed their summer break and have fully recharged their batteries. The new 'Oakies' have had a great start and have been a pleasure to be with this week; our new term has got off to a really positive start and they have all risen to the challenge.
Our new topic centres around the Vikings and asks if they were invaders or settlers? We have already learned lots about these Nordic people and the children have been very enthusiastic to find out more. The same goes for the book we have started reading in English : Varjak Paw. This story is all about a Mesopotamian Blue cat who has been sent on a great adventure. We will continue to follow his adventures over the next few weeks and begin the journey to develop our writing skills. In Maths we have started with some problem solving tasks to get our Maths brains warmed up for the place value work we will start next week. I have already been very impressed by some superb mathematical thinking, logical methodology and great explaining skills.
As well as welcoming our new Year 4's, we have also been joined by two new members of staff to the Oak Team: Mrs Gibbons and Miss Young. We are very pleased to welcome them to our Oak family and look forward to working with them this year.
Please note it is the Oak Meet the Teacher meeting on Monday 9th September at 2.30pm. As we have made some changes to the way we are working this year, it would be great to see as many of you there as possible so you are all fully informed and equipped to support your child.
