2425 Holly Class Week beginning 2nd September
We have had a wonderful first week together in Holly class. The Reception children have settled very happily into life in Holly class and the Year 1 children have enjoyed the responsibility of showing them how everything is done.
Each week in Holly class we choose a different book to lead our learning. We read 'The Colour Monster' this week and the children have enjoyed drawing their own colour monsters and sharing how they are feeling about school as well as playing with the little cuddly Colour Monster toys we have borrowed from our school library. On Thursday the children were challenged to draw a thief that might come and steal one of the colour monsters and when we came back from break time one of them had disappeared! There were lots of ideas and predictions about where it might have gone and the children drew maps to show where they thought it might be. I wonder if we will find it!!
We have also started a little bit of maths work this week, the Reception children have been playing games that involve matching things and the Year 1 children have been learning about different ways of sorting objects and practising their accurate counting.
As well as this we have enjoyed lots of free choice time around the classroom getting to know each other and exploring all of the lovely learning opportunities we have in Holly class. We have also done lots of tidying up and learning where everything lives!!
The Year 1 children have started some of their history topic work, we read a story about Florence Nightingale and learnt about why she is known as The Lady of the Lamp. The children then used their very good listening skills to follow instructions to make their own lamp. They have also enjoyed their first PE lesson of the new term.
We hope you all have a well deserved, restful weekend and we are looking forward to the Reception children joining us for full days next week.
